Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, newly married and embarking on my new life. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago. I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then with of all my hopes and dreams.
But, here it is… I am 60 and it catches me by surprise… How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember being 10 years old and trying to figure out how old I would be in the year 2000….would I even be alive? Seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that 60 was so far off and yet here I am one of them. The 20 somethings looking at me wondering…will I be that old too?
I pee when I sneeze. The morning after the night before is now the entire day after the night before! My biggest injuries happen in my sleep. I finally ran a marathon but it was at night with restless legs syndrome…which is an actual WTF thing!
And so… Now I enter into this new era of my life with these aches and pains and maybe a few regrets. There are things I wish I hadn’t done… Things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I’m happy to have done. It’s all in a lifetime.
As I enter my 60’s in my leak proof panties and my Ponds skin cream (because I am too cheap to buy the expensive stuff) I have this new relationship with learning. Not learning about things in the outside world. It is now all about me. I love what I learn about myself through journaling and quiet reflection. Through conversations I have learned that I am a ‘confident introvert’. Who knew that was a thing?
Old, (if that is what I am) is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS
Your life is a gift It is not something to take for granted. Be courageous and brave, keep listening, learning, caring and giving. Have no regrets. 💕

August 14, 2023 at 8:20 AMHappy 60th birthday again, Marion! Considering my military upbringing, and how often we moved to various provinces etc, I’m so glad my Dad’s final posting ended with us living in Oakville. I definitely feel like you’re one of my “oldest” friends (yes, pun intended) and I’m so happy to have been able to celebrate our 60th birthdays together. Love you, C-ster! Xo
