A Mother’s Day Celebration for One:
Honouring Yourself with Joy and Grace
Mother’s Day isn’t only for moms with kids or people with perfect relationships. It can be a beautiful opportunity to turn inward and celebrate the woman you are—the one who’s nurtured others, held things together, built a life with care, and still shows up, day after day.
If this year finds you spending Mother’s Day solo, consider it a chance to slow down and enjoy a day that’s entirely yours. No guilt. No pressure. Just peace, pleasure, and a few small luxuries that remind you of your worth. Sounds so lovely doesn’t it? Steve will be golfing on Sunday so I will be joining all you solo ladies heeding my own advice in the afternoon…not gonna lie…I’m looking forward to it 😉
Start with a Beautiful Breakfast
Forget quick bites or skipping meals. Today, breakfast is an experience. Set your table—even if it’s just for one—with a pretty plate, a cloth napkin, and something delicious. Think mini quiche, sausage, croissant and fresh fruit. Add your favorite coffee or a pot of herbal tea. Eat slowly. Sip. Breathe. This morning is yours.
Soak It All In
Next up: the bath. This isn’t your usual five-minute rinse. Run a tub with bath salts, bubbles, or a few drops of essential oil. Light a candle. Bring a book or just lean back with your eyes closed. It’s about soaking in quiet, comfort, and the feeling that you’re allowed to rest.
Play Your Life’s Soundtrack
Whether it’s Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald, or that playlist you always forget to play—today’s soundtrack is soft, nostalgic, and just for you. Let music fill the room as you move through your morning, setting the tone for a light, lovely day. I included a great soundtrack I made especially for you. 💕
Cue the Chick Flick
Put on something that makes you feel good. Pyjamas, a cozy robe, or your favourite, comfy, hanging-around-the-house- attire. Then grab a blanket, settle in, and watch a movie that never fails to lift your spirits. A few feel-good favorites: Under the Tuscan Sun, The Holiday, Julie & Julia, or Mamma Mia! Let yourself laugh, cry, or both—it’s all part of the charm. I didn’t even know there was a movie called Mother’s Day until I was googling this. lol. It is now on my radar to watch myself on Mother’s Day. 😊
Treat Yourself to Afternoon Tea
In the afternoon, bring out the tea and treats. A pot of Earl Grey, lemon balm, or something floral. Maybe a slice of cake, a few cookies, or even some berries and cream. Set it up in your favorite sunny spot, grab a book or journal, and lean into the quiet joy of your own company.
Journal Prompts to Reflect and Recharge
If the mood strikes, write it out. Here are a few gentle prompts to explore:
- What do I want to remember about today and the way it made me feel?
- How have I nurtured others—and myself—this year?
- What can I do to remind myself that I am a super, amazing, fun, person 😉?
You Deserve This Day
This isn’t about pretending you’re not alone—it’s about realizing you’re not lonely. There’s a big difference. Spending Mother’s Day solo isn’t second best. It’s an invitation to honour the care you give to the world, and to give a little of it back to yourself. Sounds so lovely doesn’t it?
Because, truly—you’re worth celebrating.

May 7, 2025 at 7:42 AMAfter so many years being alone I seem to get through holidays just fine, but when it comes to Mother’s Day I sometimes wonder if I have done something wrong in life. I don’t seem to be as important to my children as I once was. 😔 This is a very pretty post with such wonderful ideas. Thanks

May 7, 2025 at 7:45 AMIs it terrible that I want to be alone this year? Lol. You make it sound perfect. Haha. I will no doubt have my kids and grandkids here visiting and will be at everyone’s beck and call. The bath sounds so much more inviting.

May 7, 2025 at 10:22 AMA few years I had brunch at my house for my Mom- siblings were there and my son. After the brunch my son, and brother and husband were going golfing but were worried about me being alone for the rest of the day! Hilarious – they all left and I wandered around the mall and stopped and had a coffee then went home and sat outside reading until after dinner time. One of the best Mother’s Days I have had!!
Marion
