Rainy Day Ready: How to Turn Boredom into Productivity and Fun

You know that feeling when it’s pouring rain OR snowing outside (Can you believe this Canadian weather?), and you’re staring at the clock, wondering how much longer you can survive without some sort of mental breakdown? Yeah, me too. Spring time in Canada 😝  I’m over it. I’ve officially decided that rainy days are no longer a reason to binge-watch every single season of my favourite shows. Not anymore. It’s time to turn those dreary, soggy days into something productive, fun, and maybe even a little bit fabulous.

Here’s my plan: I’m going to create a detailed list of all the odd jobs, crafts, and decorating projects that I’ve been pretending to care about but never had the time (or energy) to do. I’m talking about everything from changing the door knob leading to the basement, to making home made laundry soap, hanging the drape in the office and so much more!!!

Now, here’s the key: I’m not going to just make the list and let it collect dust. Nope. I’m going all in. I’m going to write down exactly what I need for each project—whether it’s glue, paint, brushes, or possibly a glass of wine (for the project and for my sanity). The point is, once I’ve got my lists, I’m going to go out and buy everything I need. No more half-started projects because I don’t have the right supplies. It’s time to get organized. And yes, that’s my future self high-fiving me for being this on top of things. It’s just a genius idea!💡

I’m going to get myself some boxes. Fancy, labeled boxes. I’m going to put each project in its own box so that when the rain starts falling, I’ll have everything ready to go—no more wasting time running around looking for that one missing paintbrush or cursing at the fact that I don’t have enough glue, giving myself the perfect excuse to plant myself in front of the TV again. 🤦‍♀️

This isn’t just for home improvement projects, folks. I’m going to apply this method to recipes too. Have you ever been so excited to try a new dish, but then, of course, you realize you don’t have all the ingredients so you don’t bother? Classic move. Well, no more! I’m going to stock up on whatever I need in advance. Then, when the rain hits, I’ll be able to whip up those muffins without needing to wade through puddles at the grocery store…cause ya know I won’t!

Take my king headboard as an example. It’s been sitting there, staring at me like, “What the hell, are you waiting for a sign?” Well, I’ve got the sign. It’s called “rainy day productivity.” I’m going to grab the sandpaper, the paint, and the brushes (maybe a cocktail too – did I already say that?—don’t judge). Once everything is ready, I’m going to turn that thing into a statement piece that screams, “I’m fabulous.”

Rainy days are basically Mother Nature’s way of giving us permission to be cozy and lazy. But no more excuses. With my list, boxes, and supplies ready to go, I’m going to turn a dreary day into an exciting adventure. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even try that new soup recipe I’ve been eyeing. But no promises—it might just be a really large bowl of popcorn and getting cozy in front of the TV with a fire going, feeling really good about myself. 😉

So, there you have it. My rainy-day master plan. Who knew rain could actually be something to look forward to?

Here’s a rainy day playlist to get you through the stormy weather—full of tunes that embrace the rain, bring some sunshine, or just let you vibe out with the sound of raindrops:

1. “Here Comes the Sun” – The Beatles

2. “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” – B.J. Thomas

Hahaha I wondered if anyone would catch that! All of the boxes will have to the same! Something spring time fresh I think! LOL

Susan, the photos are of my eldest g-daughter. Her mom is a professional photographer so I get some really great photos of the girls. These do happen to be some of my favourite shots. I am glad they fit in with the theme of my blog so that I could use the collage.
Was I born with this gene? Maybe..both of my parents were creative. So ya..they passed it on to all of us actually. My brothers are all very handy too.
Have a great day Susan and thanks for stopping by to say hello. 👋

I recognize most of the songs on the playlist…but not all of them. I will be sure to look them up though. This isn’t the first time you have shared some great songs on your blog. Lots of fun. Personally, I am looking forward to a nice warm day to get into my own garage and get it organized. This is a great idea to help organize my projects because you are so right. I go to start something and get turn off because I dont have what I need. It’s half the battle. lol. Thanks for sharing a great idea and some music to my life. Happy Sunday.
