Rainy Day Spring Cleaning: 5 Small Home Reset Ideas for a Cozy Afternoon
Spring has finally arrived and if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably opened every window in the house at least once this week.
The sunshine feels wonderful, the birds seem louder, and suddenly we start noticing little things around the house that could use some attention. Fluff balls – in this house lol
But spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean emptying every closet or spending an entire weekend scrubbing floors.
Sometimes the best cleaning happens on one of those surprise spring afternoons when the sky darkens, the rain begins tapping on the windows, and a quiet thunderstorm rolls through. These spring thunderstorms are some of my favourite days.
Those cozy rainy hours are perfect for a small home reset.
Instead of tackling the entire house, I like to use that time to refresh one or two little spaces that instantly make everything feel better.
Before we begin, put the kettle on and press play.
The Savvy Rainy Day Playlist
Put the kettle on, press play, and tackle one small corner of the house while the storm rolls through.
- Rainy Days and Mondays – The Carpenters
- Come Rain or Come Shine – Ray Charles
- Into the Mystic – Van Morrison
- So Far Away – Carole King
- Come Away With Me – Norah Jones
- Shower the People – James Taylor
- Fields of Gold – Eva Cassidy
- If You Could Read My Mind – Gordon Lightfoot
- Landslide – Fleetwood Mac
- Your Song – Elton John
- Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
On rainy afternoons at Fairwood Forest, Tank usually curls up beside me while the music plays and the windows are open just enough to let the scent of spring rain drift through the house. Don’t you just love the smell of rain?
What Are Easy Spring Cleaning Tasks for a Rainy Day?
Rainy spring afternoons are perfect for small home projects that take less than 20 minutes.
Instead of overwhelming spring cleaning marathons, I prefer quick organizing tasks that freshen the home one small space at a time.
Simple resets like organizing a junk drawer, refreshing the refrigerator, tidying the entryway, or washing bed linens can instantly make your home feel cleaner and calmer without requiring an entire day of work.
5 Easy Spring Cleaning Tasks for a Rainy Afternoon
1. The Junk Drawer Reset
The problem with a junk drawer is they become exactly that! A junk drawer….and every home seems to have one drawer that quietly collects rubber bands, batteries, spare keys, pens that may or may not work, and instruction manuals from appliances we no longer own.
A rainy afternoon is the perfect time to empty that drawer onto the counter and give it a fresh start. Wipe out the drawer with a damp cloth…I am addicted to cleaning vinegar right now. I add a splash to a small pail of hot soapy water.
Toss what you don’t need, group what you do, and slide everything neatly back in place.
It takes ten minutes, but it feels surprisingly satisfying.
2. The Refrigerator Refresh
Spring naturally brings lighter meals, fresh produce, and fewer winter comfort foods.
Take a quick look through the refrigerator and see what may have been lingering there since the colder months.
Wipe down the shelves (again with the vinegar), discard anything questionable, and make space for the foods you’ll enjoy this season.
Opening the fridge to clean shelves and organized ingredients feels like a small but meaningful reset.
3. The Entryway Tidy
Winter tends to linger near the front door long after the snow has disappeared.
Boot trays, scarves, mittens, and salt stains can quietly accumulate throughout the colder months.
A quick sweep of the entryway, a wipe of the front door, and putting away the last of the winter gear instantly brightens the space.
It’s amazing how refreshing one small tidy-up can feel when you walk through the door. I love walking in my front door greeted by a fresh and clean entrance.
4. The Fresh Linen Habit
One of my favorite rainy day rituals is washing the bed linens.
There’s something comforting about making the bed with fresh sheets while the rain falls outside.
By evening, the house smells clean, the air feels cool and fresh, and crawling into bed feels like a reward. I don’t typically use air fresheners…but truth be told, I am loving Febreze Linen & Sky scent.
5. To hell with cleaning lol…grab a tea 🙂
Sometimes the most productive thing we can do during a spring storm is slow the heck down.
Make a cup of tea and sit near the window for a few minutes…soak it all in…not literally of course lol
I love to sit in my hanging chair by the back window, over looking the forest, Tank at my feet, listening to the sounds of thunder.
The house feels quieter when it rains. Softer somehow.
That short pause often gives us the energy to tackle another small task (or not) before the sun comes back out.
Spring Cleaning Doesn’t Have to Be Overwhelming
Spring cleaning often sounds like a huge project, but it doesn’t have to be.
Some of the best home resets happen quietly in small pockets of time.
A drawer here. A shelf there. A quick tidy near the front door.
Little by little the whole house begins to feel lighter.
One small corner of the house at a time, especially on a quiet rainy afternoon.
Have a wonderful rest of your weeks ladies

April 16, 2026 at 8:17 AMI love your playlist great music. I think last year you did a few posts and included three or four different playlists all of which I took the time to download. I think there is a way you can actually link your playlist in your blog. Would make my life easier ha ha ha. Have a great day. Love to your blog today.

April 16, 2026 at 8:19 AMI am so with you on this, one small corner at a time. I remember the days where I would start at one end of the house and I wouldn’t stop until I was completely finished. That included having my husband helped me pulling out the refrigerator, the stove, I’m not sure. Maybe it was just the Youngblood coursing through my veins… Long gone are those days lol
