Reinventing Yourself After 60 / Why It’s Never Too Late to Start

Why I’ve Been Quiet… and What Comes Next

Reinventing yourself after 60 is something we don’t talk about nearly enough.

For a long time this space was called Savvy Snowbirds.

Because that was the season of life I was in.

Traveling south.
Living between two places.
Figuring out what that chapter looked like.

But life has a funny way of evolving, doesn’t it?

And sometimes the very thing that once defined a season of our lives quietly becomes something else.

Not wrong.

Not over.

Just… different.

When Life Starts Nudging You in a New Direction

Over the past little while, many of you have written to me asking where I’ve been.

I have to tell you, those messages meant more to me than you probably realize.

Some of you said you missed the posts.
>Some said you wondered if I had stopped writing altogether.

I didn’t.

I was simply living through a chapter that needed to be experienced before it could be written about.

Because in the middle of all of this, something unexpected happened.

I started over.

reinventing yourself after 60 through wellness and pilates

Starting Over Later in Life – Reinventing Yourself After 60

Not quietly.

Not cautiously.

But in a big, slightly terrifying, wonderfully exciting way.

I opened a Pilates studio.

A place built around movement, strength, laughter, and community.

And somewhere along the way I realized something important.

The heart of what I had always been writing about here never actually changed.

It was never really about snowbirds.

It was about living well in the season of life you’re in.

Reinvention.
>Courage.
>Wellness.
>Quiet moments.
>Friendship.
>Trying new things even when you’re not entirely sure how they’ll unfold.

Those themes followed me into this new chapter.

The Truth About Reinventing Yourself

One of the biggest myths we carry as women is that reinvention belongs to younger people.

That by a certain age, we should have everything figured out.

But the older I get, the more I realize something surprising.

Life doesn’t actually work that way.

Sometimes the most meaningful chapters begin after we think the big decisions are already behind us.

A new passion.
>A new business.
>A new rhythm to life.

Or sometimes simply the courage to say:

“Maybe the next chapter of my life can look different.”

What This Space Is Becoming

So this little corner of the internet is evolving too.

Savvy Snowbirds will always be part of the story.

But what I’m really writing about now is something bigger.

Savvy living.

Living thoughtfully.
>Taking care of our health.
Finding quiet moments in busy lives.
>Building community.
>Trying new things even when they feel slightly out of reach.

And most importantly…

Learning that it is never too late to begin again.

A Quiet Sunday Reflection

If you’re reading this on a slow Sunday morning, I have a small journaling prompt for you.

Take a few minutes and ask yourself:

What part of my life might be ready for a new chapter?

Not something drastic.

Not something overwhelming.

Just a gentle shift.

A new hobby.
>A new routine.
>A new idea you’ve been quietly carrying around.

Sometimes the next chapter of our lives begins with a very simple decision.

To try.

I’m Glad You’re Still Here

If you’ve been reading here for a while, thank you for sticking around and if you are new, I am thrilled to have you.

This space will continue to be about the same things it has always been about at its heart:

Living thoughtfully.
Taking care of ourselves.
Building meaningful community.

And finding joy in the small moments that make up a life well lived.

More stories soon.

And maybe a few surprises along the way.

….and of course for those that know us well….a blog wouldn’t be complete without a little diddy about Tank. He LOVED his first winter at home. He loves playing in the snow and chasing me on my toboggan. We absolutely – very surprisingly – loved our winter at home.

Oh Marion! I’m so impressed that you have courageously (yes, it takes great courage) to boldly step out of a life that was rewarding but perhaps not pushing your boundaries), into the crazy but supremely satisfying world of self employment!! I’ve participated in your wonderful classes and enjoyed the healing vibes of Pilates on Plains and am thanking you for making that move! Deborah Dennison

Hello beautiful Marion! You won’t believe it! I print your posts and have a huge file that I pulled out of a box and am now beginning the spring cleaning adjustments … just yesterday! There are lots of them and I sorted my faves while wondering ‘Where is Marion?’ I wondered about you yesterday! ??? Yes, the days go by until 365 days happen and then it evolves all over again. Those days fly by, but sometimes when we are living them they seem to hang there, waiting to go by. Slow and uneventful .. I have been getting though those difficult days since my Normy passed away and now it’s been 1,110 days. You speak about the re-invention of oneself .. and it is so necessary. After 60, I never thought about it. But after 70 .. well that is when I realized I had better think a bit more about myself. 30 years of living in 2 homes in 2 countries ..The Big Boat, Norjac .. entertaining … looking after everyone else with the energy and imagination to do it .. Grandkids growing up and disappearing for months on end .. running around the World seeing castles, mountains and rivers … downsizing and sorting out those life-collecting treasures ..eh? Stuff and more stuff .. I reminisce about those “days flown by” … The family dynamics change .. social scene looks different … Normy and I became “closer” as we were aging together finding new ways to live our life without the crazy funny happenings that flew by through the years .. yes through the years .. My take on all of this is to prepare your life in the 60’s for the 70’s, … somewhere along the line living in those 60’s – life was slowly changing … and “the golf game” became our “go-to” .. Norm’a big Train Hobby was awesome to work on .. ( it’s now at the RBG )…. plus the travel- folks we travelled with were working on this too and the big change comes before you know it. ( Normy was 12 years older than I so I had to keep him fit and moving! I did it! We did it! ) Health and wellness are the top issue with the mental clerity to enjoy the older years. .. So now fast forward to NOW .. me in my late 70″s. Trying to re-invent myself without Normy. A NEW DOGGIE! Duncan is a “West HIghLand Terrier”. 5 months old and off to Doggie School! Movadi for some training … ” hypnosis ” … joined Roseland ( a group of women to play cards and meet up with ) . still working on it. I will pop over to see you on Plains come spring. I am so happy you are back and will look forward to your great ideas! I give you my best regards and compliments for doing what you do! Hugs .. Jackie

wow…Your message truly touched my heart. Thank you for taking the time to write such a beautiful note.
I had to smile when you said you print the posts and keep them in a file. That might be the nicest compliment I could have ever received. Knowing my words have been part of your days means more to me than you know.
I know how much you miss Normy. Losing a partner after building a life together like the one you describe leaves such a quiet space that is hard to fill. But it sounds like the two of you lived a wonderful, full life together, and those memories are treasures no one can ever take away.
I love hearing that you are still finding ways to reinvent life a little at a time. A new puppy, dog school, meeting new friends, cards at Roseland… those are the small brave steps that create a new rhythm again.
Duncan sounds like he is going to keep you busy in the best possible way. Even on the coldest days of winters….my Tank had me up off my butt and outside embracing the season.
And please do pop into the studio on Plains when the weather turns. I would absolutely love to see you.
Thank you again for your kind words and for being part of this little Savvy community.
      Sending you a big hug,
      Marion

Hi there Jen. Thanks for the message. Tank and I have been having a lot of fun creating pictures with AI. lol.
As for my energy…I do Pilates 😉 Some days I am more energetic than others but I really do practise what I preach and try to find balance. Sometimes that means staying home and curling up with Tank and Steve…other times it means going out with the ladies for some chin waggin’
Admittedly I am thrilled with how my new journal book turned out. It is so pretty. Something you can leave on your bedside table as part of your decor. I will definitely post exactly when I am ready to launch…it all goes back to balance. I want to be sure my head is in the right space to give it my full attention. Right now I am still in Pilates and Spa mode. Have a wonderful Sunday – whatever you choose to do.
