There is a moment
…many of us reach where life shifts. For some, things slow down, but for others, this becomes a time of finding balance after 60 in a completely new way.
For others, life becomes full again in a completely new way.
New opportunities.
New responsibilities.
New ideas that didn’t exist before.
And sometimes, if we are honest, it can feel like we are living two messages at once.
We hear that we should slow down, rest, and take it easy.
But at the same time, we feel a spark.
A pull to build something.
To create.
To begin again.
The truth is… both can exist.
This season is not about choosing between slowing down or staying busy.
It is about learning how to balance the two.
The Season of Life No One Prepared Us For
There is a strange in-between season many women experience later in life.
Children are grown or almost grown.
Careers are shifting or evolving.
Some of us move homes, change cities, or step into entirely new chapters.
Suddenly we find ourselves asking a question that may not have crossed our minds in decades:
Who am I when I am not taking care of everyone else?
For years we were everything to everyone.
Daughters, mothers, partners, professionals, caretakers, organizers, problem-solvers.
And now… there is space.
But that space does not always mean stillness.
Sometimes it means possibility.
Slowing Down Is Not Falling Behind… And Neither Is Starting Again
One of the biggest myths we carry is that slowing down means falling behind.
But there is another myth we rarely talk about.
That being busy again means we are doing something wrong.
The truth is, many women in their 50s and 60s are not winding down.
They are waking up.
Starting businesses.
Joining new communities.
Exploring interests that had to wait.
Life can feel full again… and that is not something to apologize for.
The key is not in choosing one path.
It is in learning how to move through a full life with intention and care.
What Balance Really Looks Like Now
Balance does not mean doing less.
It means making sure that in the middle of everything you are building…
you are not disappearing from your own life.
Maybe it means joining a Pilates class and reconnecting with a body that deserves care and strength.
Maybe it means sitting quietly with a journal and asking yourself questions you never had time to explore before.
Maybe it is as simple as taking a walk, making a cup of tea, or allowing yourself a moment without noise.
This slower pace is not about doing less.
It is about doing what matters more… even when life is full.
The Quiet Power of Small Rituals
Often it is not the big changes that transform our lives.
It is the small daily rituals.
Morning coffee before the day begins.
Writing a few thoughts in a journal.
Walking the dog through the neighborhood.
Stretching, moving, or doing Pilates to start the day with strength.
Spending time outside noticing the seasons change.
These simple moments anchor us.
They remind us that life is not meant to be rushed through…
even when it is busy.
Over time, these small rituals become something even more powerful.
They become a way of staying connected to ourselves while everything else evolves.
Why Women Over 60 Are Just Getting Started
There is a quiet but powerful shift happening among women in their 50s and 60s.
Instead of slowing down out of obligation, many are choosing to reinvent themselves.
New businesses.
New passions.
New ways of contributing.
Some are writing books.
Some are building wellness practices.
Some are finally doing the things they never had time for before.
This stage of life often brings something we did not have before.
Confidence.
We know what matters.
We trust our instincts.
And we understand something deeply freeing.
It is never too late to begin again.
A Simple Reflection Exercise
One of the easiest ways to reconnect with yourself during this stage of life is through reflection.
Try asking yourself this question today:
When do I feel most like myself?
Then go a little deeper:
• What am I doing during those moments?
• Who am I with?
• Where am I?
• How could I create more of those moments in my life?
Even a few minutes of reflection can reveal surprising clarity.
A New Journaling Resource
Over the past year, I have spent a lot of time thinking about how powerful reflection can be.
That is what inspired me to write a 7-week guided journaling book designed specifically for women navigating this stage of life.
The book walks readers through weekly reflection prompts focused on:
• personal growth
• life transitions
• gratitude
• rediscovering purpose
• creating meaningful daily rituals
For those who want to go deeper, I will also be offering a guided journaling course where we explore these topics together in a supportive and encouraging space.
If journaling is something you have been curious about, this may be the perfect time to begin.
For some women, this season is not only about change… but about navigating loss.
The loss of a partner.
A marriage ending.
A life that looks very different than it once did.
These are not small transitions.
They reshape us in quiet and profound ways.
Journaling can become a gentle place to land during these moments.
A space to process, to remember, to question… and slowly begin again.
Sometimes the answers we are looking for have been there all along.
We just need to give ourselves the time and space to hear them.
We reconnect with what matters.
Life did not shrink.
It simply opened up in a new way.
And if you’ve been feeling the pull to reconnect with yourself…
journaling may be a beautiful place to begin.
This season is really about finding balance after 60…not doing less, but choosing what matters more.
✨ Come back each week for Savvy Sunday, where we explore thoughtful living, wellness, reflection, and the many ways life continues to evolve after 60.

Ok – just to be clear you wrote a book over and above everything else you are doing? Where do you get your energy from. I’d be interested in buy that!!! PLUS this journal. When and where will you be seeking.

Once I am ready to launch the journal I will definitely do a full post on it with all of the details.
I want to make sure that I am fully prepared for it and get all my little duckies in a row.
I hope you have some plans to do something thoughtful for yourself today…if only for an hour 😊

March 22, 2026 at 7:13 AMHi Lynda….I feel for you. I started journaling at a point in my life when I felt like my world was crashing in around me. I learned how to ask the questions that mattered and how to answer them in meaningful ways. I can’t wait to share this with anyone that wants to learn. In the mean time, take some quiet walks, warm baths and lean on your friends.
I hope one day I can help you with your transitions.
Have a lovely Sunday and thanks so much for popping in to say, Lynda.
