Welcome to Fairwood Place

I can’t believe how quickly this season went. Like most Savvy Snowbirds, we are getting ready to head home.

There is always so much to do and think about over and above our social life…which BTW, our calendar is slammed until we leave. We are trying for one last visit or dinner with all of our American friends!

Today, I am emptying all of the kitchen cabinets and wiping them out with some home made cleaning solution. You will find the recipe below. It’s a big job…one that I will be repeating on the other side too! 🇨🇦

Do you spring clean like our mother’s used to? That was such an ordeal wasn’t it? To have to actually take storm windows off and store them in the basement…Nothing like the easy peasy casement windows of today that clip in and out to clean them properly! I just had new windows installed in our new townhouse at home. Is it crazy that I want to get home and clean them? 🤦‍♀️ I can’t tell you just how anxious I am to get home!!! 😂

We are excited to get our new digs organized! I have boxes upon boxes of ‘stuff’ from our move that we never bothered to unpack.  There seemed to be no sense in doing that last fall when we took possession of our new home as we were leaving shortly after to come down here to Florida.  Because we were having some renovations done I would have had to pack everything right back up again. We lived with two chairs and a TV in our living room for 6 weeks before we left.

I’m sharing the listing pics. The home was definitely cared for but it did indeed need some updating.

The living room. There are sliding doors that lead out to an upper deck in the back yard. We get a lot of natural light flowing in. None of our furniture fit in this room. We sold most of it at a local consignment shop. We purchased a new couch that has been delivered already. I am so anxious to get it set up. The floors have been refinished in this room and the fireplace has been completely updated. We had the entire house painted. The doors in the hallway towards the left of this photograph have all been painted black. I was told they look amazing!!

Our kitchen. These floors have been refinished as well. I had open shelves installed above the sink along with new lighting. Above the ‘island’ part of the counter is a large opening that goes all the way up through the second story. There is a skylight up there that lets in an abundance of light. Having said that the ‘hole’ needed something….I cannot wait to show you what I did….and by ‘I’, I mean my son! 😂

We don’t have a formal or separate dining area. We have an eat in kitchen. I will definitely miss my large dining room I had at the Corner House. I have so many fantastic memories of entertaining in that room. This room may be smaller but I will have it nice and cozy and ready for my friends in no time!

The little powder room is off the hall entrance. I have had some nice trim work added to the walls and a new vanity, mirror and light fixture. This door is painted black.

Stairs leading to two bedrooms and our laundry room. I love the idea of the laundry room on the same level as the bedrooms. We added a washer and dryer into a closet in the upstairs area of the Corner House. It was so convenient! Obviously the chair lift has been removed. The carpet was removed and replaced with hardwood.

The master bedroom is a great size. Lots of light comes through this picture window that overlooks the forest behind our home. We slept with the windows wide open every night last fall and woke up to the sound of the birds chirping. It was beautiful. To the right of the window there is an ensuite bathroom. We changed out the shower door in the ensuite. That is all that we are doing in that room for now.

This is the second bedroom upstairs with an ensuite bathroom as well. Our little Lilah has claimed this room as hers. 💕

Perhaps a ‘she cave’ 🥰  I love how bright it is with this walkout to the backyard. The cielings are so high down here. It doesn’t feel like a basement at all. What do you think about the idea of a she cave?  The door towards the front of the pic is a large work room. I can keep all of my craft supplies stored in there. The door at the back right is an office with a Murphy bed that Savannah has claimed as her room. We also have a full bathroom and extra large storage room as well. This room has been painted from top to bottom and the broadloom was replaced. The fireplace has been left alone. It is one of the many projects I will take on this summer.

Once I get home and get the decorating started I will share some more photos with you. I am going to have a lot of DIY projects that I’ll be sharing over the summer.

This is a view of the back of the house. The two corner windows on the top floor are in the master bathroom, beside that is the large bedroom window. On the main floor the corner windows are in the kitchen and  the sliders to the right of them are in the living room. Directly below is the sliders from the ‘she cave’ 😉 and the single window is from the office.

Our property is outlined by the little hedge. I cannot wait to get down and dirty in this little yard and get my gardens going. The forest beyond our property is owned by the residents. We have paths that meander through it and down to a ravine. Tank loves to play fetch out there. There is a row of apple trees right behind our house. By the time we get home they should be almost ready to bloom if they haven’t already started. 🌸 It is going to be so pretty out there.

I can’t wait 😊

Here is the recipe for a terrific all natural cleaning solution. I got this a couple of years ago from the Forks Over Knives website.

Only 2 Ingredients:

8 oz water

8 oz distilled white vinegar

Add together in a glass spray bottle and voila!

Now have fun adding in your favourite essential oils IE: lavender, orange or lemon. You could add fresh strips of lemon skins or a handful of rosemary. I used long strips of lime 🍋‍🟩 from my lime tree. Adding scent isn’t necessary for this solution to be effective, it just makes it a bit more fun to use and it makes your house smell so fresh and clean. Love it.

Congratulations on your new home. It looks like a beautiful location for man/woman or “beast”. Knowing you, I’m sure the decorating will be done in no time. The “bones” look great. Go for it on the she cave!

      Haha…that made me laugh!!!
I agree…I think I am in with the ‘she cave’
It’s such a bright sunny room and having all my crafty supplies down there will be perfect. I am picturing myself sitting at a large table in front of the fireplace doing something crafty while watching a chick flick on the big screen. 💕
Whatever I do, I’ll be posting it.
Have a great weekend and give my favourite guy a little smooch for me.

Good morning Linda and thanks! I hope it’s going to be so pretty!!
I have two layouts for the backyard…it is hard to choose which one to do. Since I am getting my boys to do the digging maybe I should ask their input lol.
I love that you said you are waiting for this to go from a house to a home…that is exactly how I am feeling about it.
Thanks for stopping in and leaving such a nice comment.

I have been using vinegar and water for years to clean my home. I have a dog too. I even use it to wash my floors. It gives my hardwood a beautiful shine. I find a lot of the hardwood cleaners leave a film on my floor and I can see my foot prints. Hahah. I am too lazy to add anything else to it…I sometimes add liquid dish soap but that’s it.
I think your home is very pretty. Please post your DIY projects as you go. That is right up my alley ❤️
Loved this post. It has been fun watching past transformations. I am looking forward to seeing what you are going to do here. What did you do to the opening in the kitchen ceiling?
    Have a nice weekend Marion.

hello Elaine. Thanks for the kind message.
I will do a kitchen reveal….don’t you worry 😉 I want to wait till the light fixtures are in.
I agree with you on the hardwood floor cleaners. I had dark floors at the Corner House. I put them in and regretted it to be honest. It was such a chore trying to get rid of paw 🐾 prints and foot prints too. It wasn’t until I switched to vinegar and water. Funny that you mentioned adding the soap. I do that too when I wash the floors.
Stay tuned for a LOT of DIY projects this summer. I am super excited to get them started. I just don’t know where to start! LOL.
      Have a great weekend.

Do you add anything to your vinegar and water or just leave it as is?
